Pochettino sacked after just one full season in charge

Paris Saint-Germain have sacked manager Mauricio Pochettino and appointed Nice boss Christophe Galtier as his successor on a two-year deal.

Pochettino's departure comes just months after he guided PSG to the Ligue 1 title, but the club's failure to win the Champions League appears to have cost him his job.

PSG were 2-0 up on aggregate against Real Madrid in the last 16 of the Champions League with just 45 minutes left of the tie, but they somehow contrived to lose 3-2 on aggregate.

That result led to widespread criticism of Pochettino, and it seems that the club's hierarchy have now decided to make a change.

Galtier is a highly-rated coach who has won the Ligue 1 title with Lille in 2021. He is also known for his attacking style of play, which should suit PSG's talented squad.

It remains to be seen whether Galtier can lead PSG to the Champions League title that they crave, but he will be given plenty of time to try.
