Carrying Capacity Calculator Dnd 5e

How Much Can Your Character Carry?

Calculating Carrying Capacity in D&D 5e

Using Strength Score

In Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition (D&D 5e), a character's carrying capacity is determined by their Strength score. The formula for carrying capacity is:

 Carrying Capacity = Strength Score x 15

For example, a character with a Strength score of 10 has a carrying capacity of 150 pounds. This represents the weight in pounds that they can carry without becoming encumbered.

Encumbrance and Movement

Carrying a load that exceeds your carrying capacity has several consequences. You become encumbered and your movement speed is reduced by 10 feet. You also can't run or dash, and you have disadvantage on Strength checks and Dexterity saving throws.

If you're heavily encumbered, with a load that exceeds double your carrying capacity, you have disadvantage on attack rolls and Dexterity checks.

Tips for Managing Carrying Capacity

There are several ways to manage your carrying capacity and avoid encumbrance. One option is to use a bag of holding or other magical item that increases your carrying capacity. You can also offload some of your gear onto other party members or use a mount or cart to transport your belongings.

Remember, if you're not sure how much you can carry, always consult the Equipment chapter of the Player's Handbook.
